Blue Folder
Home to School Folder
Your child received a blue folder with all of the school policies. Everyday we will be placing all notes and school work in this folder. Please take the time to look at and empty this folder every night. You will use the folder to send notes to me, return homework, or send in money envelopes. It is important that your child bring his/her folder everyday.

AR reading
Students are expected to read AR books at home and at school. Consistent reading at home makes a huge difference. Students are allowed to check out 2 books at a time from the library. As soon as they are done reading the book, they should return it and get a new one. There is no need to wait for library day.
If you want to look up books from home to find out the AR level or if a test exists for a certain book, you can do that on our website… www.myeagles.org Search AR, click BookFinder. You will then get to type in the name of a book to see if it is AR, the level, and the points. AR tests can only be taken at school, but if your child reads a book at home, you can write down the AR number so he/she can take the test at school. I’ve had kids come to school on Monday with LISTS of AR numbers so they can take tests. LOVE IT! The more you read, the better you read….
You can also sign up for parent access to your child's AR account through Renaissance Home Connect. This will allow you to see what books your child has read, their reading level and more. You can also receive an email when your child takes and AR test. This great feature allows you to keep track of your child's progress, number of books read and comprehension scores. As soon as out library has the students entered into new classrooms for the school year, I will send you a note with your child's log in information. If you already signed up last year, then you should be all set.

Math
Second graders are expected to know addition and subtraction facts by memory and be able to recall them quickly. We take 5 minute timed tests each week to assess who is accomplishing this goal. Students are expected to finish 100 addition and 100 subtraction problem, each in 5 minutes with 90% accuracy. We practice math facts each day at school. What can you do to help? Parents are encouraged to do flashcards with their student at home to practice rapid recall of math facts. There are also many websites that can be used to practice math facts or any other math topic your student is struggling to master. Many of the math games on Symbaloo help with this goal.

Ways to help
Parent Volunteers
We have 4 parties, field day and a field trip for parents to help with. If you missed the sign up for party supply donations at the open house, I will send a note reminding people of what they planned to donate and what is still needed before each party. You can sign up to help with these activities when specific information comes home. Don’t forget that to help, you must have a Volunteer Release form on file. You can get this form at the Back to School Bash, the office, or download a form from our website… www.myeagles.org You will need to turn in a copy of your drivers license with the form.
If you are interested in helping in the classroom on a regular basis, let me know. We could use help with Math fluency, baggie books, listening to kids read, flashcards and more.
Many parents can’t volunteer time at school but can help out by donating needed items. Watch for donation and help requests. Furthermore, the PTO will need volunteers to help with book fairs, carnival, luncheons, and Santa’s secret shop. Parents are the keys to a successful school. Please remember to fill out the volunteer release form NOW so you won’t have to worry about it later.
Box Tops and Campbell Soup Labels
Please save your “General Mills” Box Tops for Education and your Campbell Soup Labels as the school earns money or educational items. Send them in with your child. You will receive more information from the PTO after school starts.
